Moviegasm, Foodgasm, Bookgasm

BOO!!

Pictured above is Ben-Jie, if he was a chick XD

This was a good week for me. On Thursday, Chern and I went to watch movie. Wondering outside the theaters we came across this poster

One minute we were looking at it speechless, then the next we BOTH pointed at the chick and said: "Ben-Jie!!" It's true ain't it?

The movie we watched was obviously Nicolas Cage's Season of the Witch. Everyone who reads this blog know that I am a hardcore Nicolas Cage fangirl. So I probably spent half the time looking at him rather than pay attention to the movie :)

How can a dude pushing 47 look so good!
In a nutshell, Nicolas Cage plays Behman, a 14th Century Crusader who is tired of murdering innocent people for the church. Him and his best friend Felson, who is played by Ron Pearlman (aka Hellboy himself!) become nomads travelling the countryside until the come across a village infested with the Black Plague. After finding out about their past, the Head Priest there make them take a witch who is said to be responsible for the plague to a remote monastery where the monks there will decide her fate. Along for the ride are a monk Debelzaq (Stephen Moore), a local knight Eckhart (Ulrich Thomsen), a swindler cum guide Hagamar (Stephen Graham) and an altar boy named Kay (Robert Sheehan). But the witch is not as she seems, she turns their weaknesses into her weapons and may not be what she claims to be...

Hellboy after hours
If Nicolas Cage weren't in this I may still watch this. The storyline was engaging and there were never dull moments. However, the acting was flawed in many ways. I know I am to believe thet Behman and Hellboy were supposed to be best friends but both lacked chemistry other than a few friendly comments.

Whoa there Missy!!
But then Nic Cage IS in it so at least I was entertained. C'mon! When a guy nearly 50 still looks good when wearing what looks like a burlap sack you gotta give him some credit!

Kay
The only reason I tolerate this guy is cause his curly hair reminds me of Darren Criss...... A less cute version...

I shall smolder now.

The movie has a total of 2 LOL moments. Both were probably unintentional, for me anyway. One was when Hellboy headbutts a demon minion not once but twice! Another is when demons were crawling on the damn celling like freaking lizards. THE CEILLING!! REALLY!!?? I totally LMAO'd there!! It looks like something a cheesy horror film would put in!

I knew he had a huge sword!
Overall, a good movie to watch only if you like Nicolas Cage and a supernatural film without much supernaturally things happening.

On Saturday, Esther, Iven, Cat, Jer, Grace and I met in Time square's Papa John's for a *sob* farewell lunch *sob* for me *end sob*. Foodgasms were everywhere as we ate cheese pizzas with traces some carbohydraty thingy at the bottom. I WANT THE PICTURES JEREMY!!! After Papa's was Gelato where more foodgasms happened!!!!

Later, I did a little shopping with Grace before going to one of my most favouritest place in the world.

Borders!!!!

I am such a nerd

I saw some interesting books there too

Children's books
Wow. Just wow. I remember reading Peter and Jane when I was young. This makes the corny classic even BETTER!

HP POP UP!!!!!! I WANT!!!!!!

I bought this book. Disney Hyperion. Hard Cover. EPIC!!!! I looked for this book for ages!!!!

Lightning Thief Graphic Novel!!!!! LOVE!!!!! It cost about 50 bucks so like any Malaysian, I spent an hour reading this in the bookstore and then retured it to the shelf. :) But I loved it!! The storyline was changed slightly for the graphic novel but at least it wasn't as mangled as the movie.

BOOKGASM!!!!!

And to make my day even better, Rick Riordan posted the latest cover for the new Kane Chronicles!!

I'm so happy :')

Scare Tactics

M. Night Shyamalan, I forgive you.

I forgive you for disastrous "The Lady in the Water," boring "The Happening" and this summer's  vomit inducing "The Last Airbender".

You have totally redeemed yourself with "Devil"

The screenplay of “Devil” was penned by Brian Nelson and based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, a man with a reputation for churning out movies with twist ending after twist ending. But there is enough foreshadowing here (see title) that the resolution isn’t quite the shocker we’ve come to expect.

Pure evil has descended on a high rise in Philadelphia, as five nameless people board an elevator only to find their destination isn’t exactly where they had in mind. This scenario is the plot of “Devil”.

During the film’s upside-down opening, the narrator which we later know as a security officer named Ramirez (Jacob Vargas) who doesn’t appear on screen for almost half an hour, tells of an old story he heard in his childhood. The story repeats itself throughout the ages, always beginning with a suicide, which opens the way for the Devil to appear on Earth and make sure that everything that can go wrong does.

“Devil” begins the same way. Here, the suicide that invites evil in also serves another purpose, bringing Det. Bowden (Chris Messina), a faithless, recovering alcoholic still grieving over the deaths of his wife and young son, to the building where the elevator is stuck.

As chance would have it, the malfunctioning elevator is of the express variety and gets stuck in an area where there is no access. All efforts to get it back online fail. Attempts to open the doors are unsuccessful. All who try to help dies a gruesome death. The passengers — a mechanic, an old woman, a guard, a rich woman and a salesman — are stuck with one another.

As Bowden and Ramirez look on via the elevator’s security camera, things begin to go wrong, pushing the detective to look deeper into the riders’ backgrounds. His investigation reveals that each passenger has his own checkered past, a fact that seems far beyond mere coincidence. Ramirez believes their past deeds and the lies they tell themselves are why they have been brought together. Bad things like this happen for a reason.

The attacks mostly take place when the elevator lights malfunction, so director John Erick Dowdle (“Quarantine”) hides most of the scary action behind a black screen, forcing moviegoers to experience the horror with their ears until the lights come back on. It’s mostly just a bunch of bumping, screaming and grunting, interrupted now and then with an occasional flash of light. Simple, but effective. You will never know who dies until the lights come back and they're dead...

Everyone is a supect in the elevator. You don't really know who is behind the murders, who is the Devil in disguise. This simple fact is good enough to draw you into the story, watching for anything and everything that can give it away. The person you suspect the most might be the next person who dies, making you doubt yourself over and over again. The plot twist in the end was unexpected and spooky...

There really aren’t any egregious acting issues in the movie. Each actor and actress pulls their weight, though no one stands out. But the passable performances mix nicely with an ominous soundtrack of strings and bass instruments and an interesting plot with decent enough execution — a package that delivers an hour and a half of thrills.

This movie is a definite must-watch on anyone's list. Iven and I were hanging on the edge of our seats throughout the entire movie. Our popcorn and waffles just lay there, forgotten. It was just that good!

As of writing it is 52 days,  23 hours, 35 minutes and 20 seconds till Deathly Hollows

Sorcerer's Apprentice

OMG!

That's what I have to say about Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Nicolas Cage was awesome!!! He's so hott!!

I feel like a crazed twitard, except I am intelligent and appreciate good acting XP

Doesn't he look gorgeous in that fedora and leather overcoat

EPIC SCENE!!!!!

Special effect were totally awesome. Thanks to the great Jerry Bruckheimer

Love the special effects, up there, Balthazar producing a cute little fireball

Plasma ball

Another plasma ball

See that intense look of concentration on his face, NOW THAT'S GREAT ACTING :)

Another notable character was Jay Baruchel. The dude is in a couple of other movies that I remember: Trophic Thunder, She's Out of My League and How To Train Your Dragon.

A thing you must know about Baruchel is that he keeps his nasally voice no matter what movie he is in (kinda like Sean Connery but more annoying and less sexy).

The weird part is that everytime Balthazar said his name, I always expected him to call him Hiccup :P

The Mopping scene was epic!

As for the story, well, it wasn't Cage's best one ever. Storyline was a little shallow. The plot is complex but easy to understand unless you have the IQ of a twitard.

Who am I forgetting......... Oh yeah

THE VILLIAN

Alfred Molina is the dastardly Horvath! He's the perfect villian as he is evil to everyone! Even the other less notably villians are no match to him! MUahahahahah!!

Best of all, he's a villian with a wicked sense of humour :)

Sure there were other actors. But none of them stand out.

So what are you waiting for. Watch Sorcerer's Apprentice NOW!
I last pic before I end.

HOT!!
