Old Shows, New Books

This week was so freaking hot. I thought I was gonna melt into the pavement.

Seriously, it felt like 30 degrees out there. Not. Cool. And it wasn't the "Hot in the sun, cool in the shade" thing. It was fucking hot everywhere. I went out with a Malaysian-style thin tee and slippers and was still burning.

I wonder how I would hold on when I'm back in Malaysia.........

In other news, this month September is AWESOME! Not only did season 2 of My Little Pony premiered last Saturday, Glee is on and so is The Big Bang Theory! Along with watching Fairy Tail and Beelzebub, I'm not gonna get an work done for the next few months. Oh well~~

 Glee was AWESOME! Best opening episode eva!!! It boiled down Glee to it's basics that we know and love and Blaine out of his Dalton uniform and in bowties and skinny jeans. Grr..... And I want ALL songs in my phone stat!

I love the herd. MLP:FiM is not a show for snotty-nose kids anymore. I love everything about the show, it's characters, it's appeal and it's plot! Not to mention that the values and lessons theme did not completely overshadow the whole show. <3

Also, I bought 3 new books today, all crime novels, two of which has medical themes to it. :D Robin Cook is responsible for my obsession for medical thrillers... But what I really want (and need) is Son of Neptune!!

Son of Neptune is only due next month (or more appropriately 2 weeks!), but to keep us on our toes; Rick Riordan had been slowly introducing characters from the book. That man is an evil genius, dangling that book in front of me..... I WANT IT SO BAD!!

Finally, WHERE IS MY POTTERMORE EMAIL!!! SEPTEMBER IS ALMOST OVER! WHERE IS IT!!!???

Quick post today since I'm studying.

Rick Riordan posted the cover of Son of Neptune a few weeks back.

To be honest, it's not as mind blowing as the over covers but what the heck. It's RICK RIORDAN! You know the book is gonna be EPIC!!!! But I still want an awesome cover XD

Hetalia Volume 4 is coming out!!!! OMG!!! But I still have to wait for the English Version :( I really need to learn Japanese.

Wrong Priorities

Yep, I got my priorities right :D I have never bought Hunger Games, the first time I read it, it was from an e-book. I want to buy this book so bad, with the cover depicted above. But unfortunately, all the books I've found have that bitch Stephanie Meyer's name on it  >:(  I don't wanna taint my room with that horrible name!!

Back to schooling matters...

My exam timetable came out. I would have

Biology - 8 June - 9.30am - 12.30pm

Chemistry - 9 June - 9.30am - 12.30pm

Ecological History of Humanity - 14 June - Final Research Essay Submission before 5pm

Informatics - 20 June - 9.30am - 12.30pm

Did I mention that I HATE mornings? (and exams too)

One thing that comforts me somewhat, is that exams are NOT a measure of intelligence, they do not determine how well you will do in life, how successful you will be or how much potential you have in yourself.

The Throne of Fire comes out next month!!!

Rick Riordan is going on tour to promote his book in thr US..... Nooooooesss!!! Come to Australia Rick TT.TT I wanna meet you. But then, even if he came I couldn't afford the book anyway... $23.90 = RM72. Not. Fun. But I can't wait for this book!! I've already read extracts, here and here. I needs this nao!!!!

I can't even afford his latest book: Vespers Rising.

A prequel to the original 39 Clues series, documenting the history of the four Cahill siblings and another scheming family, the Vespers. I want it so bad even when I haven't even read the entire 39 Clues Series yet. Fuck. Of of the 10 books, I've read only 7, I wanted to find this book in the library but sadly, they dont have it. Double Fuck!

At the very least, Melbourne U library had books that I was desperate to read for ages :D

I have been desperate to read John Green's books since I discovered nerdfighteria (DFTBA!). Here I can!

Looking for Alaska is a great book. It has the perfect balance of teenage angst, love and humour, telling the story of a young boy who remembers the last words of famous people. John Green is an expert at telling a story by first person. You feel like you're in the character's head and can tell how he is feeling, even without John Green telling you. Fantastic book!!

Second book was An Abundance oF Katherines. It tells the story of a child prodigy who only dates girls named Katherine, after getting dumped by Katherine no. 19, he then proceeds to construct a formula of his relationships, his Eureka! moment. The best part of this book is the languages, the main character, Colin and his best friend are multi-lingual, therefore, they tend to mix a lot of foreign words in their speech, I've learnt so many foreign curse words :) Can't wait to put them in good use..... hehehe

No. 3 is Paper Towns. This was my least favourite book :/ Don't hate me nerdfighters! I just didn't think It was that good. Sorry.... The book started out good. A murder and a prank is always a good way to start ;) But after that it was just angst after angst after angst. I really hate teenage angst, moderation is good but if a character is gonna go on and on about something for pages, I'd rather not read it. However, this book will pull you in with it's engaging storyline, but unlike the main character, you just wanna kill everyone in the novel. Or was it just me?

By far the best book! Will Grayson, Will Grayson was the collaboration of John Green with David Levithan, some author I don't know. This was a story that featured both authors writing each chapter from the point of view of different characters, both named Will Grayson. With a perfect balance of humour and love, this book it tops on my "Books to re-read" list.

Yay! I'm so happy!

Oh, the book I'm current reading is The Fire Thief by Terry Deary. Don't let the funny name fool you, he's a fantastic author! Here, he tells the tale of Prometheus, a titan chained to the rock until he made a bet with Zeus, find a human hero or die permanently. Prometheus then time travels to the 19th Century, where the world has gone ugly and choked. Satire and gore is a great combination and Deary brings it in full here, especially in the footnotes, where the supposed 'author' explains about what he just wrote. I'm still in the middle of this XD I found out about this book when I went book-hunting in MPH 2 years back, I couldn't afford it then and when I came back for it, it was sold out. But now I can read! Yay!!! Also a perfect Greek Mythology fix for myself as well.

Next on my reading list: Finish Fire Thief series and start on Tunnels series by Roderick Gordon.

Now if Terry Deary and Rick Riordan would write a book together, my life would be complete!

It's the year of the rabbit and most places are cashing in on this particular animal.

Since bunnies are less scary than say snakes or dragons (wusses), Many advertising agencies are using the rabbits's image to promote things to children. But don't be fooled by the rabbit's long ears, pink nose and fluff; their bite can seriously HURT you!!

Chinese New Year is one of the hardest holidays. Not only am I leaving exactly 1 week after CNY, all the food and CNY cookies are threatening my bikini body. NOOOOO!!!!!! Siriusly, I cannot stop myself from munching all the goodies even after a huge dinner! Curse you cookies!!!

On an Unrelated note, I finished reading and re-reading Lost Hero. I think it's pretty stupid the I spend RM35 on a 2 day entertainment. I guess to save money I have to do one thing. KIDNAP THE PM AND FORCE HIM TO LOWER THE PRICE OF BOOKS!!!!!!! (For me at least)

This was a good week for me. On Thursday, Chern and I went to watch movie. Wondering outside the theaters we came across this poster

 One minute we were looking at it speechless, then the next we BOTH pointed at the chick and said: "Ben-Jie!!" It's true ain't it?

The movie we watched was obviously Nicolas Cage's Season of the Witch. Everyone who reads this blog know that I am a hardcore Nicolas Cage fangirl. So I probably spent half the time looking at him rather than pay attention to the movie :)

How can a dude pushing 47 look so good!

In a nutshell, Nicolas Cage plays Behman, a 14th Century Crusader who is tired of murdering innocent people for the church. Him and his best friend Felson, who is played by Ron Pearlman (aka Hellboy himself!) become nomads travelling the countryside until the come across a village infested with the Black Plague. After finding out about their past, the Head Priest there make them take a witch who is said to be responsible for the plague to a remote monastery where the monks there will decide her fate. Along for the ride are a monk Debelzaq (Stephen Moore), a local knight Eckhart (Ulrich Thomsen), a swindler cum guide Hagamar (Stephen Graham) and an altar boy named Kay (Robert Sheehan). But the witch is not as she seems, she turns their weaknesses into her weapons and may not be what she claims to be...

Hellboy after hours

If Nicolas Cage weren't in this I may still watch this. The storyline was engaging and there were never dull moments. However, the acting was flawed in many ways. I know I am to believe thet Behman and Hellboy were supposed to be best friends but both lacked chemistry other than a few friendly comments.

But then Nic Cage IS in it so at least I was entertained. C'mon! When a guy nearly 50 still looks good when wearing what looks like a burlap sack you gotta give him some credit!

The only reason I tolerate this guy is cause his curly hair reminds me of Darren Criss...... A less cute version...

I shall smolder now.

The movie has a total of 2 LOL moments. Both were probably unintentional, for me anyway. One was when Hellboy headbutts a demon minion not once but twice! Another is when demons were crawling on the damn celling like freaking lizards. THE CEILLING!! REALLY!!?? I totally LMAO'd there!! It looks like something a cheesy horror film would put in!

I knew he had a huge sword!

Overall, a good movie to watch only if you like Nicolas Cage and a supernatural film without much supernaturally things happening.

On Saturday, Esther, Iven, Cat, Jer, Grace and I met in Time square's Papa John's for a *sob* farewell lunch *sob* for me *end sob*. Foodgasms were everywhere as we ate cheese pizzas with traces some carbohydraty thingy at the bottom. I WANT THE PICTURES JEREMY!!! After Papa's was Gelato where more foodgasms happened!!!!

Later, I did a little shopping with Grace before going to one of my most favouritest place in the world.

Wow. Just wow. I remember reading Peter and Jane when I was young. This makes the corny classic even BETTER!

HP POP UP!!!!!! I WANT!!!!!!

I bought this book. Disney Hyperion. Hard Cover. EPIC!!!! I looked for this book for ages!!!!

Lightning Thief Graphic Novel!!!!! LOVE!!!!! It cost about 50 bucks so like any Malaysian, I spent an hour reading this in the bookstore and then retured it to the shelf. :) But I loved it!! The storyline was changed slightly for the graphic novel but at least it wasn't as mangled as the movie.

I've got both the lyrics and music worked out but being a total music n00b, I cannot pen down the sheet music .

Whatcha think? :) It's a little emo I know but I got this inspiration when reading Street Boys by Lorenzo Carcattera. I wondered how would those children felt being abandoned by their parents in a time of such great need. But then I couldn't stop myself from inserting a little of my rebelious streak :P


However, this is my own interpretation. The book isn't like that (If it were, I wouldn't read it XP). The boys fight back and kill several grown ups.

PS: Kane Chronicles has come out for some time now, yet I haven't bought it. Its all Popular and Times fault. They have the Puffin edition of the book and the cover looks so freakin HORRIBLE!!! I want the Scholastic one!!!

10 reasons why Twilight sucks

These are the 10 reasons why I hate the damn book!! The movie is bad enough it has it's own whole other list!!

10. Despite her obvious efforts, Valley author Stephanie Meyer is simply an awful writer.




This point has been made clear to the entire world. Sadly, I think her overly simple and cliché writing is what makes the book so appealing. Cracking open a thesaurus doesn't make you a novelist. The word "chagrin" is used constantly out of context. THESAURUS RAPE!! Smeyer uses repetitive writing, and big words to make it seem intelligent. "I saw his incandescent body sparkling scintillating in the sun." <---- Actual line from the book.
Oh, she hates plots too.

9. These are the worst vampires ever imagined in human history.




Rarely do main vampire Edward Cullen and his friends eat at all, despite being "vegetarian" vampires, feeding off animals instead of humans. And where did they gain this conscience? Why do they care if people die? They're vampires! KILL!!!!



8. I want to hit Bella.

Not only is the character of Bella lacking any sort of emotional depth, but she allows herself to fall into the arms of a fucking vampire. Any sane person would be weary of the situation. Not only that, but she proceeds to continue a bizarre codependent relationship with him. This "I love you … but stay away from me … but come here anyway," bullshit that Edward pulls is just unhealthy. On that note …

7. I want to hit Edward.

Mostly because he refuses to end Bella's life by finally feasting on the blood he's wanted for so long and thereby ending the book and MY misery. Go on! She's delicious. WTF is wrong with you

6. Edward is sooooooooooooooooo hot! OMG! Edward is sooooo freakin' dreamy.

You know how I know? Because Meyer makes hundreds of references to his beauty in the book. Seriously, every five lines, there's at least 1 line about "Edward's perfectly sculpted chest" Yuck. All the while, he lives up to being like most hot guys - completely vacant of personality. She goes on and on about nothing but how soft Edward's left ear is. The entire series of Twilight: 80% describing what Edward looks like, 20% of everything else.

None of his creepy behavior, watching Bella as she sleeps, following her around so he can save her, (STALKER ALERT!!) would be tolerated if he weren't 100 percent supa-fine or real. Which leads to point number 5 …

5. Vampires sparkle!

Who knew vampires were so flamboyant? Edward leads Bella to the top of a mountain, where he proceeds to take off his shirt to show her why he can't go in the sun. He's sparkly! Do you get it now Bella!? He can't go out into the sun because people will want to make handbags out of him! Despite that, Bella stares stupidly and tells him he's "beautiful." Surprise, surprise! Barf.

4. "You better hang on, spider monkey."

Worst line EVER. Edward tells Bella to hop on his back, looking back and telling her "you better hang on, spider monkey," because he's going to fly her above the trees and stare at her among the branches. I think I saw this in Tarzan once......

3. The first movie has ruined two of my favorite bands. (not about the book but still...)

Muse and Radiohead are among the likes of Linkin Park and Paramore on the soundtrack. What!? The filmmakers went so far as to edit out a potentially risky Muse lyric in their song "Supermassive Black Hole." The opening line of the song "Oh baby don't you know I suffer? Oh baby can you hear me moan?" was edited down only to the first question. Because you can only moan during sex, you know. (Edward's a 107 year old virgin)

2. Meyer clearly thinks she's Bella.

The plain, average character has five hot guys after her at any given time. Why? Because she's so virtuous and plain! Guys love that! Meyer would know.


1. Bella sucks.

And she's not even a vampire. She is just so damn boring!!has no problem being a "strong" little sassy pants toward her parents, but she can't walk out the door without being victimized and therefore saved by the sparkly Edward. Also, the real reason why Edward can't read Bella's mind is that she has absolutely NOTHING in it, that way any girl can wear Bella's shoes, killing their brain cells 1 by 1 in the process.

Bella just screams anti-feminism and efffectively setting back women 200 years. It this the lesson we want to teach girls who read this book?? "When you BF leaves you it's OK to spiral into depression and commit suicide."

Overall , Twilight is THE WORST BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!

I don't really think we should burn this books though, it means spending money buying it!! However, if you do have one of the four books lying around the house (gift from others or bought yourself then hated it) I suggest you all recycle it.

The thought of the book getting shreded into pieces then recycled to become toilet paper brings joyous tears to my eyes :)
